Kamau Kenyatta is an accomplished jazz musician, composer, and arranger from Detroit, Michigan. He is most recognized for his work as a producer and collaborator with numerous jazz legends, including Hubert Laws, Freddie Hubbard, and Donald Byrd. He has also worked with artists in other genres, such as soul singer Gregory Porter and rapper Common.
In addition to his production work, Kenyatta is an accomplished instrumentalist and has released several albums under his own name, including "Between the Lines" and "Destiny." He has maintained a long-standing relationship with the UC San Diego Department of Music, where he has served as a faculty member and director of the Jazz and African Music ensemble.
Kenyatta draws inspiration from a wide range of influences, including jazz, African music, and classical music. He is renowned for his harmonic sophistication, inventive arrangements, and ability to infuse his music with a sense of joy and playfulness.
